Homemade Pain (poem by me)

It may seem weird but
The Lord said to me,
“There’s something
I want you to see.”
He set down a book,
I opened the cover,
Eager to have a look.

On the first page I saw
A girl with eyes full of tears
She was young but also
Wise beyond her years
Blood dripped down her arm
The victim of self-harm.

I turned the page and
Saw another girl doing the same,
Hundreds of pages filled
With photos of homemade pain.

I began to cry for them
Moved by sudden empathy,
He said, “Tell them how much I care.
Tell them the Lord can see.”

Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely. —Psalm 139:4
