“It” (poem by me)

I really loved “it,”
Friends told me to slow down,
but why would I quit?
I was fascinated—saturated by “it,”
“It” was my little trick
…just my personality,
My own teeny slip,
“It” helped me cope
with all the wrong that’d been done me
To me, it was not that bad—
actually kinda funny.

But then I died and when I did
I added up all the time I wasted on “it,”
Nine years of my life gone!
If only I’d faced it—restrained…
…how many people I would have helped!
…all the success I could have gained!
Like the rich man that Lazarus knew,
I wanted to send this message
from the other side to warn all of you.

For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh.
—Galatians 5:17
