The Relaxing Trees (poem by me)

There is a hammock
swinging in a wild meadow,
It’s tied to two trees
One tree is called “Trust in God”
The other is called “Firm Hope.”

You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. —Isaiah 55:12

Anxiety (poem by me)

You are balancing on a fallen log
suspended above a deep valley,
your own infant is in your arms,
hungry hounds are at your back
with teeth as sharp as knives,
howling and growling,
you say a prayer,
do not fail,
or else
death.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” —Isaiah 41:10

Quieting Anxiety (poem by me)

Anxiety has a voice,
a worst-case scenario,
someone’s dead or dying
on my cranial stereo.

It has visions too,
accidents and blood galore,
someone’s dead or dying,
a policeman’s at the door.

I take a deep breath,
and blow it all away,
no one’s dead or dying,
It will all be okay.

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” —Isaiah 41:10

The Un-Worry Process (poem by me)

I put on a coat
that weighed ten pounds,
Everywhere I went
it dragged me down.

I tried to remove it,
It was knitted to my skin,
I foresaw no way
to be free again.

I called on my God,
the Maker of me,
He said, "Let go of all
your stress and worry."

He said, "I've got you,
Rest in my arms,
I'll keep you safe,
and protect you from harm."

I want to say the coat
dissolved—it's done,
But the truth is I'm pulling
out stitches one by one.

"For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe
in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his
sacred tent and set me high upon a rock."—Psalm 27:5

Inside My Anxious Mind (poem by me)

Every thought screams,
All such drama queens,
I forget everything else,
And attend to their needs…
Anxiety is eating me alive.

It’s not rational,
It’s not voluntary,
It’s more like mental rape,
Probably hereditary...
Anxiety is eating me alive.

Inside its stomach,
I grow depressed,
Please vomit me out,
So I can finally rest…
Anxiety has eaten me alive.

Cleansing Stream

Many of my poems are about my addictions, anxiety, and other manifestations of emotional pain in my life. I recently finished going through the Cleansing Stream program, and it has helped me a lot. Cleansing Stream is a series of classes accompanied by prayer that helps people overcome emotional pain. I really recommend it. The Fiery Beast (poem by me)

There’s a fiery beast
living inside me,
I suppose I make
him warm and comfy—
feeding him feasts
of anxiety and worry.

Well not anymore,
I cast him out,
suffocated and slain—
my dragon of doubt.

Trapped (poem by me)

People saying hi
& acting so friendly
I watch them walk by
but I can’t say anything
‘cause I’m trapped
in this glass box.
It’s all around me
It’s fear, anxiety, worry.
What should I say?
Who should I be?
No one can tell I’m trapped
Inside of me.

God sees.
Send down the rope
& be my rescue
so I can be free
from all that vexes me.
This is easy for You, Lord,
for You are strong and mighty.

The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save… -Zephaniah 3:17

Trouble (poem by me)

My problem is chilling,
Big as the Chrysler building,
It’s not just anxiety,
He reminds me He is Almighty.

It hangs in focus,
Everyone must notice,
They joke politely,
He reminds me He is Almighty.

My stomach feels queasy,
My thoughts are uneasy,
Rescue is unlikely,
He reminds me He is Almighty.

A stone falls from the sky,
I begin to wonder why,
A slingshot is handed to me,
He reminds me He is Almighty.

So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him. —1Samuel 17:50
