Rebirth (poem by me)

Vitality is not vital to life,
Passionate desires seem to pass me by,
Go ahead, zip up my body bag,
My soulless body is as good as dead.

Oh God, breathe life into me again,
Prophesy to these dry bones of mine,
Animate my hibernating spirit,
Rain down the elusive glitter called joy.

I sing the song You put in my heart,
Laughter comes easy to me these days,
You carried my sorrow far, far away,
I will praise Your Name forevermore.

“He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him.” —Psalm 40:3

Ophelia’s Depression (poem by me)

This is the 5,000th day
Ophelia rolled out of bed,
walked into the wind,
swam a river upstream,
biked up a steep mountain,
then ended right where she began.

She’d like to buy some hope,
but when she woke up,
she had negative five bucks,
now she has negative ten,
She calls it “life”;
they call it depression.

Ophelia wants you to see
why she’d prefer to stay in bed,
pull a sheet over her head,
and drift off to Never-Never Land,
After all she dreams in color,
but only wears gray.

“I counsel you to buy from me gold refined
in the fire, so you can become rich; and white
clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful
nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you
can see.” —Revelation 3:18

The Un-Worry Process (poem by me)

I put on a coat
that weighed ten pounds,
Everywhere I went
it dragged me down.

I tried to remove it,
It was knitted to my skin,
I foresaw no way
to be free again.

I called on my God,
the Maker of me,
He said, "Let go of all
your stress and worry."

He said, "I've got you,
Rest in my arms,
I'll keep you safe,
and protect you from harm."

I want to say the coat
dissolved—it's done,
But the truth is I'm pulling
out stitches one by one.

"For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe
in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his
sacred tent and set me high upon a rock."—Psalm 27:5

Inside My Anxious Mind (poem by me)

Every thought screams,
All such drama queens,
I forget everything else,
And attend to their needs…
Anxiety is eating me alive.

It’s not rational,
It’s not voluntary,
It’s more like mental rape,
Probably hereditary...
Anxiety is eating me alive.

Inside its stomach,
I grow depressed,
Please vomit me out,
So I can finally rest…
Anxiety has eaten me alive.

Fountain of Life (prayer)

Psalm 36 9(Join me in this intercessory pray if you have friends who suffer from depression and anxiety.)

Lord,

I pray for people in my life suffering from depression and anxiety.

Help these people to overcome their disorder

through guidance and the healing power

of Your Holy Spirit.

Give them peace, energy and determination

to conduct their daily lives

and to pursue healthy goals.

Help to be cheerful and also to spread cheer.

Silence the voice and visions sent from the Enemy

to rob their hope or incite fear.

Deliver them from any poor habits

they have used to self-medicate

but help them to deal with problems

through the love of God and healthy friendships.

Allow them to feel the love and caring

that shines down from heaven on their souls.

Show them the path to the living fountain

that springs forth healing and joy

for Your Son’s eternal glory.

In Christ’s Name, Amen.

Fill Our Nets (prayer)

joh

(Sometimes we realize we need help rendering our hearts in prayer. Read on to pray with me for God to bless and anoint us.)

Lord,

We sail on stormy seas

With waves of oppression, loneliness, and depression,

Crashing on us.

As we paddle through and give ourselves to You,

Bless us along with our families, churches, and friends.

According to Your great plans,

Make my desires reflect Yours.

Teach me to practice obedience,

Help me to pray with conviction,

So when we arrive on shore,

Our nets are full of sinners saved by grace,

So we may praise You

Joined in song—

The songs of nations for Your glory.

May it be so

Forever and ever.

In Christ’s Name,

Amen.
