Anxiety (poem by me)

You are balancing on a fallen log
suspended above a deep valley,
your own infant is in your arms,
hungry hounds are at your back
with teeth as sharp as knives,
howling and growling,
you say a prayer,
do not fail,
or else

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” —Isaiah 41:10

Battling Fear (poem by me)

What if fear made the event happen?
Wouldn’t we all…
…be attacked by great white sharks,
…die a slow agonizing death by spider bites,
…or be mutilated by sinister clowns?

What if fear made the event happen?
Wouldn’t we all…
…starve to death in a worldwide famine,
…be rejected by everyone we know,
…or standby helplessly as our loved ones contract diseases?

What if fear made the event happen?
Wouldn’t we all…
   …ward off those murderous thoughts,
…attack them with daggers of peace,
…and maintain a stupendously sound mind?

Let's start right now.

Feelings (poem by me)

My feelings made me care,
They went with me everywhere,
I was afraid people would see
just how they embarrassed me,
So I somehow put them on a shelf,
In that way I numbed myself.

One day I invited Jesus in,
And let Him cover all my sin,
He told me feelings are a gift,
Heavy ones — He would lift,
Now I let them come and go,
He never lets me lose control.

Life is short from beginning to end,
It's not too late to begin again,
Put fear of feeling on delay,
And let some emotion show today.

"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is
light.” —Matthew 11:29-30
