Death is Coming (poem by me)

Our days are numbered.
Nothing can stop death,
Not…

an ambulance,
a brick building,
a charmed chance,
a dome ceiling,
an escape pod,
a fixed fund,
a greenback wad,
a handgun,
an iPhone,
jewels or gems,
a kind grandmum,
likeable friends,
mating or marriage,
a notable musician,
overprotective parents,
powerful ammunition,
qualified doctors,
radical diets,
service helicopters,
trusted advice,
an unyielding cause,
a vaccination,
a watchdog,
xenogenication,
a youthful appearance,
or a zealous perseverance.

Do you know you need a Savior?
Don’t wait for more inspiration,
Now is the time of God’s favor,
Now is the day of salvation.

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” —Revelation 3:20

Love One Another (poem by me)

If you drive up in an beatup hoop-d, I’m gonna love you,
If our skin colors don’t match at all, I’m gonna love you,
Even if you turn away from me, I’m gonna love you still.

If you open your mouth and tacks fall out, I’m gonna be your friend,
If you wear a potato sack dress, I’m gonna be your friend,
Even if you stay on the couch all day, I’m gonna be your friend.

If your unfaithful spouse divorces you, I’m gonna sit with you,
If you get fired from your longstanding job, I’m gonna sit with you,
Especially if you become ill, I’m gonna sit with you.

I may not be Jesus, but I have His hands and feet,
That’s why…
I’m gonna love you,
I’m gonna be your friend, and
I’m gonna sit with you.
We’ll be together even after the end.

“By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” —John 13:35

Other Version of You (poem by me)

There was someone who looked a lot like you…
sitting right next to me in the church pew….
same hair, same face, same clothes….
except he raised his hand…
when the pastor invited us into Christ’s kingdom.

And you’d never do that…
cause you are always in bed past noon on Sundays…
sleeping off the drunkenness from the night before…
and Christ is the last thing on your mind.

A month passed since I last saw that version of you…
then I saw him again next to me in the church pew…
with a genuine grin that testifies of the Lord…
and a sparkle that speaks of the Holy Spirit.

And I wish it really was you…
That you were healthy and happy…
Instead your body is wasting away from your vices….
And my heart is on the floor.

And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. -Ezekiel 36:26

Adored (sestina by me)

You will be born and adored,
You will scorn your parents,
For making rules you break,
Just prior to idolizing friends,
And yourself,
Without knowing God.

One day you meet God,
And you feel adored,
Even when you are by yourself,
He lifts your distaste for your parents,
He gives you new friends,
There’s just one habit you cannot break.

If this one habit you could break,
You could find peace in God,
Like your friends,
This habit you once adored,
This sin hidden from your parents,
It fosters a hatred for yourself.

You are stuck with yourself,
Or else you’d make a clean break,
You’d confess to your parents,
You’d show your face to God,
And be once more adored.

You fall back in with old friends,
The demons bore holes inside yourself,
In the mirror a face that can’t be adored,
Your habit no longer takes a break,
You have sworn off God,
You’ve been kicked out by your parents.

Like an orphan with no parents,
Like a loner with no friends,
You call up in desperation to God,
And surrender yourself,
You are full of heart break,
And you are once more adored.

Then your parents take you back in and you are adored,
Your friends make amends but you’ve found a friendship no one can break,
It’s between God and yourself.

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.—Romans 5:8

Lift Each Other (prayer)

proverbs 17 17

(Join me in prayer to bless your friends.)

Lord,

We thank You for sending special friends into our lives,

We praise You for the ways in which You have made these people unique,

Please bless them today.

Meet all of their needs according to Your good and perfect love,

Give them courage to fend off every fear,

Help us to lift each other up when we fall down,

Let us sharpen one another,

Help us to love at all times,

We pray they would lean on You in present trouble,

And You would wipe away every tear,

I pray You would keep us from neglecting our friendships,

But we would give them priority because You prioritize love,

You, Lord, are the Friend who is closer than a brother

Who has laid down His life for us,

And there is no greater love than that.

In Christ’s Name, Amen.
