Religious Spirit (blog by me)

The Pharisees and chief priests of Jesus’ time were familiar with Scripture, but they denied the true spirit of the law. Since they had no relationship with God, they were unable to recognize Him when He appeared right before their eyes in the man of Jesus. They were caught in a trap of a religious spirit.

Someone caught up in the spiritual trap of a religious spirit is more concerned with following the rules than following Christ. He or she is quick to criticize anyone who fails to follow their own moral code, but they fail to fulfill the greatest commandments to love God and love others (see Matthew 22:36-40). Sadly, this spiritual trap fills the one caught in it with pride and blocks a genuine relationship with the Lord.

For the most part, I am painfully aware of my inability to live up to God’s standard. However, I have with much effort been somewhat successful at living up to my own set of rules at certain times in my life. It is then that I feel a self-satisfying pride that is particularly ugly, leads me far from God, and quiets His voice. When I confess my sins and humbly call on the Lord, He is eager to hear my prayer.

Are you guilty of having a religious spirit? Jesus is patiently waiting for you to get back on the right track today so He can live in a close relationship with you. Let’s say this prayer together: “Lord, forgive me for my religious spirit. I confess I have been more concerned about rules than following You. Help my heart to seek after You and love You above all else. Help me to love others instead of criticizing them. We all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (see Romans 3:23). From this day forward, guide me to operate in a spirit of grace to myself and others. Thank You, Lord, for the grace You have shown me in Your great mercy. In Christ’s Name, Amen.

Prayer for Your Children (by me)

We pray their cares would be few,
& your peace would console their heart,
We pray they would learn their true value
& they’d live as ones set apart.

We pray they would know Your amazing grace,
Though they may never learn the depth or length,
We pray they claim You as their hiding place,
& let the joy of the Lord be their strength.

We pray they would know You as their Friend,
& learn to trust You and be still,
We pray good would come to them,
All this according to Your perfect will.

Let them share the gospel without shame,
Let them lift up praise to Your Holy Name.

Poetic Prayer for the Unsaved (poem by me)

Lord of all mankind, nothing is too hard for You,
Thank You for saving me and washing me of my sin,
I know You are real and Your Word is true,
Now I come before You for my friends and kin.

Open their eyes to see they strayed,
Let them repent of sin and comprehend,
Cause them to feel shame and disgrace,
So they’ll reach out for You before their life’s end.

Let them reach out for You and see You’re near,
You are knocking at their door even now,
You’re speaking to them — let them hear,
Let them open the door — show them how.

Show them that those who seek will find,
Reveal the depth of Your love and grace,
How Your Son died for the sins of mankind,
Illustrate how His punishment took our place.

Let them ask for and receive the Holy Spirit,
Like a kind Father, it’s Your good pleasure to give it.

*I pray in agreement for the salvation of your loved ones. In Christ’s Name, Amen!

Truth About Heaven (poem by me)

These secrets come from the same demon,
This time, it’s the truth about heaven,
Because he swallowed the truth serum,
Or else, there’s no way he would be tellin’.

No one is bored or boring up there,
Everyone walks around feeling
joyful like they are walking on air,
and no one dies or needs healing.

No one feels hungry or thirsty,
There’s always an enormous feast,
And a river that never gets dirty
But flows from the Lord’s throne of peace.

All the people up there love one another,
Singing and dancing down golden streets,
They treat every man like their own brother,
All are gentle, even the wild beasts.

It is never, ever dark like night,
King Jesus fills the whole place with love
and illuminates it with His glorious light,
All are clothed robes, each one white as a dove.

Keep being a good person and trust that,
Don’t rely on the Savior and God’s grace,
Before you know it, your life will have passed,
And you will never have to live in that horrible place.

*If you want to make heaven your eternal home, please give your life to Christ by saying this prayer:
Lord, I feel like I am a good person when I compare myself to other people, but deep inside I know I am not pure enough to stand in the presence of a perfect God. Please let Jesus’s blood wash me clean of all my sins so I can put on a pure white robe and stand before You. From this day forward, I make You my Lord and God. And starting today, You adopt me as Your own child that You will love and care for as Your very own. You will do this on the basis of your sinless Son who died on the cross for me and rose to eternal life and sits at Your right hand. Thank You for saving me from hell. Show me the way to live according to Your commands and be obedient to You. In Christ’s Name, Amen.
