Ashes (poem by me)

Why am I like this?
I looked around for…

some passerby to shame,
some foe to frame,
some kin to blame,
some circumstance to name,
some truth to maim,

I found nothing but
my own wicked heart,
It crumbled like ashes
in my cupped hand,
leaving soot residue
that I blew at you
and called it love.

The Meaning of Life (poem by me)

Love is the true meaning of life
So do not let your heart delay,
Let it be evident in everything
you do and each word you say.

Love will never cease to fulfill you,
It will extend overseas like an embassy,
Like a chauffeur, hope will drive you,
Like a memoir, it will be your legacy.

“…God is love.”—1John 4:8

Your Heart (poem by me)

It hangs in the room like a big glowing ball,
Everyone is mesmerized,
but fear keeps them from touching it;
People die without ever coming close—
Afraid it might sting their hearts in the end,
The glowing ball is pure and simple joy.

Not me.
I take hold of some.
I tie a string to it
and march right to the door of your heart.
I am surprised to find guards
with spears standing by.
I reach past them and knock.

No answer.

I boldly knock ’til nightfall.
Then I sleep there
at the door of your heart.
At morning, I knock some more.
Finally, you answer the door
and I see your face.
I reach out to give you the joy on a string.

And you order the guards to…
“Take her away.”

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. —Revelation 3:20

The Heart’s Condition (poem by me)

High school sweetheart, how hard I fell for you—
thanks to the red long stem roses you sent,
and promises of forever to be true,
I surrendered my heart—one hundred percent,
How hard it was to hear you found someone new,
And the breakup stirred an inner torment,
Men and women so often tear apart,
but the pain is worse on an unguarded heart.

Above everything else guard your heart, because from it flow the springs of life. —Proverbs 4:23
