Poem to Santa from Me

Santa, if you are able—I have a big wish,
Please add maple cabinets for me to your list,
While you are at it—a pretty new floor,
And a modern backsplash, I would simply adore.

I have done the best I can without complaint,
Our old stuff has been fixed up with layers of paint,
But our cabinets are still just particle board,
And the linoleum floor could win an Ugly Award.

This year, I’ll admit I yelled at the kids a little,
Okay, maybe a lot or somewhere in the middle,
But one broke curfew; the other an end table,
They won’t change by the gentle retelling of a fable.

I won’t mind the elves banging and hammering away,
Just PLEASE give me a new kitchen on this Christmas Day!

Ode to Tan (poem by me)

Tan, oh tan,
Where art thou?
See me so pale,
I look pallid—
almost sickly.

When you were here,
I looked at least
ten pounds thinner,
Remember summer—
skin all a glimmer.

No, I won’t try
to stir your sleep
with a fake cream,
I’ll wait on you, dear,
At least until spring.

Perspective (poem by me)

While Noah was seeking refuge,
I was enjoying the deluge,
When you're a great white shark like me,
A flood just increases your territory.

Thanks to man's dirty dealings,
The rain gave us vaulted ceilings,
Within a forty-day time span,
The flood opened up our floor plan.

Each one of us hosted delicious feasts,
Until the floodwaters decreased,
We felt more than a little defeated,
When the excess water retreated.

Why it had to end, we may never understand,
But we heard that it worked out for Noah and his clan.

**"Perspective" is a fictional poem that seeks to show that world events
can be seen as either a curse or a blessing based on the perspective.
A flood that plagued mankind is a historical event recorded in Genesis 6-8.
There is a bit of controversy surrounding whether or not sharks survived the
flood. A great website named Got Questions addresses difficult questions
using Scriptural support. Read their answer to whether or not sea creatures
survived the flood here: http://www.gotquestions.org/fish-flood.html.

Little Things (poem by me)

I wanted to travel around the world,
And smuggle Bibles across borders,
Or maybe care for disabled children
In an Asian village orphanage.

I wanted to do something big for God,
No order was too tall,
But the Lord said to me,
"Can you do something small?"

Can you raise a family?
And work hard at your job?
Can you love your neighbor?
How about adopt a stray dog?

After all these years, I say it with a wink,
"Lord, these little things are harder than you think."

The Poet’s Struggle (poem by me)

If only my body had no need of sleep,
Unceasingly, I would write poetry
The fragrance of my words like potpourri,
Stirring the angels to weep.
*
Why do I waste my time?
Arranging words in symmetry,
Guaranteeing poverty and obscurity,
On such a trivial pastime.
*
I will stop writing today alas,
No wait, I'll stop tomorrow,
First let me express my sorrow,
In a touching epitaph.

A Bitter Beau (poem by me)

You're the only one I want
In the morning when I wake up
I need you, I want you,
Stars buck when our lips touch.

Just a little pick me up,
Again at 10 and at 2,
Then I am up all night,
Cursing the day I met you.

When is it ever enough?
I am finally giving you up,
Honestly, I'm so through,
Goodbye forever, coffee cup!
