Wrapped Up in God’s Word (poem by me)

Ruth and I go to lunch,
David and I dance sometimes,
I am blind with Paul,
and often weep with Jesus.

In the Scripture, I make my bed,
I live there and sleep there,
among the words,
I believe them,
They are all I see.

You can find me,
in a pasture of Psalms,
swinging from a fig tree,
When the branch breaks,
I fly into the Lake of Galilee,
And swim in God’s mercy.

I hoist the sails,
for the Holy Spirit,
See, I have become part of the ship!
Look at my palm and you see
w o r d s.

The Truth (poem by me)

You seem so intrigued and impressed,
but the truth is i am just a mess,
I spend half the day in my pajamas,
looking like a dope who hit rock bottom,
Trying to shake off feeling groggy,
always holding a cup of coffee,
Searching for my free-wheeling soul,
Looking everywhere-high and low,
Whew! Jesus had my soul all along,
That’s good—cause that’s right where it belongs.

Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious to me, For my soul takes refuge in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge Until destruction passes by. —Psalm 57:1

Longing Divulged (poem by me)

Swept in a wind,
Brilliant blaze,
Quick to ascend,
Vanished malaise.

Fling deceived,
Twelve elder souls,
Every thought perceived,
A longing divulged.

No words or reserve,
Heart on review,
Raw emotions surge,
Breathe and exhale You.

Answers undiminished
Times still unfinished.

“I long to dwell in your tent forever
and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.” -Psalm 61:4

Just One More (poem by me)

Let’s have a drink or maybe two,
I notice this habit sticks to me
But not to you
I shake it off
Now it’s stuck like glue.

What will my family say?
I’ve disappointed them again,
How can I face God and pray?
I used to speak with Him so open.

Savior, save me from this spinning circle,
Relief, regret, repent, repeat,
Help, I’m merely mortal,
Today I’ll rise up, overcome, and defeat.

Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign LORD comes escape from death. —Psalm 68:20

*This poem is not actually about my own struggle. Yet, it is easy for us (as Christians) to relate to this vicious cycle since we all must wrestle with our flesh against sin.  May we all press onward to the goal of Jesus Christ together. I pray the Lord helps you to overcome whatever you are battling today! (If you were interested in my own testimony of deliverance, you read it in a blog HERE.)

Creation (sijo poem by me)

Bloodthirsty tiger lies in wait to tear dog’s flesh from bone,
Elsewhere, dog nurses an orphan tiger cub, licking and washing,
God looks down from His throne in heaven and smiles on them both.

Psalm 145:9 says The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.)

Excuses (poem by me)

I was lounging in plain sight,
He appeared and said “Write!”
I said, “Paper is fresh out,”
Legal pads, college-lined, and rose-scented paper
suddenly delivered in fresh stacks all about,
Then He vanished in a foggy purple vapor.

Again I began lounging outright,
He reappeared and told me to “Write!”
I said, “Pen just ran out of ink,”
Ballpoints, gel pens with comfort grips,
feathered quills and inkwells came about in a blink,
Then He disappeared like the sun during an eclipse.

Once more He was there. “Write,” He said.
I replied, “I am afraid to see what’s in my head.”
He said, “Don’t be afraid, dear daughter.”
Then He produced a lake of still water.

Wearily, I looked inside.
Carefully, I wrote.
Tragically, I shrieked.
Frantically, I cried.
Then He held me,
And I was satisfied.

“He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.” -Psalm 23:2
