Rebellion (blog by me)

It is easy to spot rebellion in a toddler. As soon as you ask them to do something, they respond with No! While it is healthy for a toddler to go through this stage, it is a process of maturation to grow out of this stage. Older children and adults should be able to recognize that rules and laws were put into place to protect us. However, there is something inside that just nags at some of us and wants to do things the way we think is right.

Older children and adults with a problem of rebellion may get in trouble at school, get fired from work, have difficulty in relationships, receive lots of tickets or even end up in jail. There is a time to plead for justice, such as when the rules are laws are in contrast to God’s Word. However, Christians should learn to obey authority in most circumstances because it will discipline us to obey God.

We need to take our obedience to God very seriously because 1 Samuel 15:23 tells us rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft or divination. When we rebel as a matter of habit, we are falling deeper into sin. Sin takes us farther from God. In order to stop the cycle of rebellion, we must confess and ask God’s help. Let’s pray together. “Heavenly Father, I am guilty of rebellion. Forgive me for it. Give me an obedient heart so I can serve You as You deserve. You love me and care about me and feel grieved when I turn from You, and I only want You to be pleased with me. In Christ’s Name, Amen.

Spiritual Traps (blog by me)

Since creation, men and women have been tempted to do wrong against God and others. James 1:13 tells us God does not tempt us to do evil, but we know the Enemy of our souls does tempt us. The first time we sin, we feel conviction. The second time, it is a little less. After the sin has become a habit, we no longer even think it is wrong.

Nearly everyone of us can identify with some spiritual trap. One is pursuing money as a main goal in life. Another is rebellion against authority and God. Yet another is sex outside of marriage or other forms of sexual perversion. Drunkenness and/or drug use is yet another spiritual trap. Dabbling in the occult, witchcraft (regardless of intent), and New Age practices are some others. Trusting in other religions is one more, and this is not an exhaustive list.

All of these spiritual traps lead us away from God. They are types of unfaithfulness. God has the power to deliver people from these traps if they call on Him. If you are stuck in one of these sins, confess your sin to God and call on the Name of Jesus Christ for deliverance. God is waiting for you to call on Him. Do it today!
