A Prayer Sonnet for the Unsaved (by me)

Oh Gracious God, reveal yourself to our loved ones,
Bestow on them belief in Your Triune nature,
Cause them to confess sins with remorseful tongues,
Inspire them to trust in Your Son as their Savior.

Compel them to deny other religions,
Avoid false teaching and untrue prophecies,
Advise them to become baptized as Christians,
and invite the Holy Spirit in their bodies.

Let them hunger for Your Word and read it daily,
Kindle a desire to seek You and serve You,
Coach them to share the love of Christ bravely,
Lead them to a church that will see them through.

We exalt You, Father, above everything,
We praise You as our everlasting Lord and King!

*I pray in agreement for the salvation of your loved ones. In Christ’s Name, Amen!

Death is Coming (poem by me)

Our days are numbered.
Nothing can stop death,
Not…

an ambulance,
a brick building,
a charmed chance,
a dome ceiling,
an escape pod,
a fixed fund,
a greenback wad,
a handgun,
an iPhone,
jewels or gems,
a kind grandmum,
likeable friends,
mating or marriage,
a notable musician,
overprotective parents,
powerful ammunition,
qualified doctors,
radical diets,
service helicopters,
trusted advice,
an unyielding cause,
a vaccination,
a watchdog,
xenogenication,
a youthful appearance,
or a zealous perseverance.

Do you know you need a Savior?
Don’t wait for more inspiration,
Now is the time of God’s favor,
Now is the day of salvation.

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” —Revelation 3:20

Truth About Heaven (poem by me)

These secrets come from the same demon,
This time, it’s the truth about heaven,
Because he swallowed the truth serum,
Or else, there’s no way he would be tellin’.

No one is bored or boring up there,
Everyone walks around feeling
joyful like they are walking on air,
and no one dies or needs healing.

No one feels hungry or thirsty,
There’s always an enormous feast,
And a river that never gets dirty
But flows from the Lord’s throne of peace.

All the people up there love one another,
Singing and dancing down golden streets,
They treat every man like their own brother,
All are gentle, even the wild beasts.

It is never, ever dark like night,
King Jesus fills the whole place with love
and illuminates it with His glorious light,
All are clothed robes, each one white as a dove.

Keep being a good person and trust that,
Don’t rely on the Savior and God’s grace,
Before you know it, your life will have passed,
And you will never have to live in that horrible place.

*If you want to make heaven your eternal home, please give your life to Christ by saying this prayer:
Lord, I feel like I am a good person when I compare myself to other people, but deep inside I know I am not pure enough to stand in the presence of a perfect God. Please let Jesus’s blood wash me clean of all my sins so I can put on a pure white robe and stand before You. From this day forward, I make You my Lord and God. And starting today, You adopt me as Your own child that You will love and care for as Your very own. You will do this on the basis of your sinless Son who died on the cross for me and rose to eternal life and sits at Your right hand. Thank You for saving me from hell. Show me the way to live according to Your commands and be obedient to You. In Christ’s Name, Amen.

The Everlasting Father (poem by me)

Lord, You are my Mighty Deliverer,
False notions and bad habits fall away,
Lord God, You are my only Hope-Giver,
Without You, my life seems all black and gray.

God, You are my Everlasting Father,
You gave me faith to see, hear, and believe,
No one else thinks I am worth the bother,
They offer little love and always leave.

Lord, You light my path and show me refuge,
Otherwise, I would be hopelessly lost,
How could I ever argue or refuse
When my true Savior paid such a great cost?

I pant for You as the deer pants for water,
I am the clay, and You are the Potter.

“The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” —Psalm 18:2

Nefarious But True (poem by me)

Memorize your face
Memorize your tales
Tales so nefarious
Tales so jagged
Jagged daggers of revenge
Jagged stabs at life
Life so liquid
Life so frenzied
Frenzied attempts to find God
Frenzied for His love
Love so genuine
Love so pure
Pure admiration for His creativity
Pure admiration for His cleverness
Cleverness that astounds
Cleverness that humbles
Humbles you to your knees
Humbles you beyond your senses
Senses that lie
Senses that yield to temptation
Temptation that drags you away
Temptation that dulls your conscience
Conscience so willing to be muddied
Conscience that likes to sleep
Sleep in fragrant dreams
Sleep in ignorant bliss
Bliss that kills the soul
Bliss that loves flattery
Flattery that tempts idols
Flattery that yields to sin
Sin that leads to death
Sin that needs forgiveness
Forgiveness that is costly
Forgiveness that heals
Heals your broken soul
Heals your mortal wounds
Wounds from His feet
Wounds from your past
Past weaved by you
Past torn by others
Others who were careless
Others who dismiss
Dismiss your identity
Dismiss His existence
Existence that's nonnegotiable
Existence that is true
True Savior
True sacrifice for mankind
Mankind…
Savior…

A Somber New Year’s Eve (poem by me)

I stare out the window pane on New Year’s Eve
into the blackness of night, interrupted
by the burst of crimson light from a bottle rocket
and the hoots of horns and bangs of pans,
Slurred songs carry muffled merriment  my way,
Yet it only makes my heart pang even more.

My Lover has not returned or sent word,
His promise sustains my heart with hope,
This wretched blackness will fade to light
like a drenched watercolor bleeding paint,
But for tonight, I will close the shades,
And sob louder than the world’s clamor.

When the Beginning Is the End (poem by me)

I wish...
...our community treasured life;
I wish...
...she wasn't a deer caught in a headlight;
I wish...
...the law protected you;
I wish...
...my words had gotten through;
Then...
...maybe you would have been born;
Then...
...you would be a cause to rejoice instead of to mourn.

"Children are a blessing and a gift from the Lord."--Psalm 127:3

Moving sidewalk (poem by me)

We met on a moving sidewalk
going in opposite directions;
They stopped only for a moment
to taunt me with a sarcastic question:
Why do you go to bed at nine
while we stay out til three?
They joked about my dirty robe
flaunting flashy clothes and jewelry.
Although they jeered at me
and my precious Savior too,
all I felt for them was absolute pity—
that’s all I felt; it’s completely true.
That’s because they couldn’t see
and wouldn’t listen to me tell
they were on a moving sidewalk
guiding them to the gates of hell.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.—John 3:16

If you have found yourself on a moving sidewalk going the wrong direction, please consider making a change. Your path to Christ can begin right now with this prayer of salvation: Lord, I trust You with my soul. I believe Your Son died on the cross and rose from the dead to pay for my sins so I can live eternally. Thank You for my salvation! In Christ’s Name, Amen.
