House Plant (poem by me)

You are a flourishing calla lily plant
that grows in a vibrant clay pot;
Your leaves perfectly enchant
Your bloom is a yellow love knot.

When you paint yourself in a positive light,
your view makes you thrive.
When you throw shade on every blight,
your thoughts cause you to die.

Remind yourself you’re a beauty
And tell other thoughts to hush
It’s your own choice and duty
To squash the underbrush.

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”—Psalm 139:14

Awkward (quote by me)

Moments aren't awkward,
Life is awkward with moments of grace.

*Social media gives us this intimate glimpse inside the minds
of many people. One observation I have made about our society is that
we walk around in fear of awkward moments. People become overly
preoccupied with their own awkwardness; yet these same people
fail to realize that everyone's life is altogether awkward. The rare
occurrence is the moment of grace we experience if God smiles on us
and lets us perceive a glimpse of heaven in this temporary world.

Extraordinary Love (poem by me)

Is sugar cane less sweet when it grows in a field?
Is a cloud more majestic on a cloudy day?
Is a daisy less dainty in a pasture?

Nor are you less valued when there is no…
…high five…
…significant other…

God thinks you are extraordinary.
Just as you are.

“Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered….” —Luke 12:7

Funhouse Mirror Maze (poem by me)

Once at a funhouse mirror maze
A nightmarish sight caught my gaze
Hundreds of me stood all bloody
A wound for each thought “I’m ugly”
Lord, help me love myself for the rest of my days.

You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you. —Song of Solomon 4:7
